BIG Challenge, farmers against cancer.
Pig farmers, dairy farmers, veal farmers, poultry farmers, goat herders, farmers, horticulturalists, veterinarians, consultants and researchers from the Netherlands, Belgium and various other countries are working very hard to put an end to the misery and helplessness that the cancer disease causes in our society.
A disease that strikes 1 in 3 people and also has major consequences for family members, friends and colleagues. Therefore, on 3 and 4 June 2020, around 200 cyclists and runners from the agricultural sector will climb the Alpe d'Huez as many times as possible during Alpe d'HuZes. The goal is to raise as much money as possible for research into Good, Happy and Healthy living with cancer.
Over 8.7?million euros!
BIG Challenge is an initiative of Herman Houweling. He started this campaign in 2009 and single-handedly realized a sum of 113,000 euros that year. After that, BIG Challenge has grown enormously: during the past 11 editions, over?1.700?BIG Challenge participants have collected around 9.5?million euros for Alpe d?HuZes/KWF until 2019. This makes BIG Challenge the third most important fundraiser for KWF Cancer Relief. It is important to know that Alpe d'HuZes and BIG Challenge have a strict anti-bowl policy.?100% of the donations goes to the research fund.
Target 2020
The goal of BIG Challenge is to cycle/run/walk a minimum of 1.000.000 euro during Alpe d?HuZes 2020. To achieve this, the BIG Challenge participants are approaching a large number of sponsors and are organizing various sponsorship activities in the run up to the event. On the one hand to raise money and on the other hand to make this initiative by the agricultural sector known to a wide audience.
